U.S. Ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, stated that "Syria's intervention in Lebanon is not welcomed by either the Lebanese or the Israelis," according to the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation.
Huckabee emphasized that "the best option would be for the Lebanese army to take control of the southern part of the country."
The U.S. ambassador claimed that Israel "does not desire to remain in Lebanon, but will not withdraw until calm is assured on its northern border."
U.S. President Donald Trump has repeatedly mentioned the possibility of Syrian intervention in Lebanon "to deal with Hezbollah."
Last month, President Trump expressed dissatisfaction, stating, "I am not happy with how Israel has dealt with Lebanon and Hezbollah. They should have been able to accomplish the task more swiftly."
He added, "If Israel cannot complete the task against Hezbollah without killing everyone, then (Syrian President Ahmed Sharaf) will handle it. Syria will do the job."
