The Lebanese General Directorate of General Security issued a statement refuting circulating reports in some media and social platforms regarding the issuance of a number of forged passports. They affirmed that these allegations are completely unfounded and lack any credible evidence or facts.
The directorate emphasized that several statements and clarifications on this matter have been previously released. They mentioned that prior investigations supervised by the General Prosecution had revealed the issuance of passports based on inaccurate declarations.
These investigations led to the arrest of those found involved, with necessary judicial actions taken against them. The offenders are still serving sentences up to this date.
The directorate assured that since then, investigations and verifications in this case have continued under the supervision of the General Prosecution, without uncovering any improperly issued passports.
Amid ongoing dissemination and republication of these claims despite previous denials and clarifications, the General Security called upon media outlets and social media users to exercise the utmost accuracy and responsibility, ensuring the verification of information and its sources.
They highlighted that persistently spreading unverified information serves suspicious motives, particularly tarnishing the reputation of the Lebanese passport abroad.
The statement concluded with a firm warning that the directorate will not tolerate any entity or individual promoting or disseminating false or misleading news that could damage the credibility or integrity of Lebanese travel documents. They reiterated their commitment to taking all necessary legal actions against violators and pursuing anyone proven to be involved in spreading these false claims under the guidance of competent judicial authorities.
