Lebanese lawmaker Nadim Gemayel has criticized the renewal of the residence permit for former Iranian ambassador to Lebanon, Mohammad Reza Sheibani. Gemayel regards the move not merely as an administrative decision but as a 'serious retreat from a sovereign decision, an affront to state dignity, and a negation of the oath of office.'
In a post on the platform 'X', Gemayel expressed his concerns, stating: 'If decisions to expel ambassadors are subject to retraction and bargaining, how will the state be capable of making tougher decisions, such as monopolizing arms in the hands of the state, disarming Hezbollah, and holding accountable those who issued passports to members and officers of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard?'
He added: 'There is no state with half measures, nor sovereignty with compromises,' emphasizing that 'today's events are a mockery that undermine state dignity and erode the concept of sovereignty.'
