In a continuous effort to tackle drug smuggling operations and apprehend those involved, Lebanon's Internal Security Forces (ISF) announced today a significant breakthrough. Acting on intelligence gathered by the central anti-narcotics office, ISF foiled a sophisticated drug trafficking attempt originating from a network operating out of a Latin American country.
Following extensive data analysis, the bureau uncovered a planned operation to smuggle a substantial quantity of drugs from Brazil into Lebanon via Rafic Hariri International Airport, Beirut. The suspect, identified as A. T., a Lebanese national born in 1986, was apprehended on August 25, 2026, upon coordination with Lebanese General Security at the airport.
Upon inspecting the suspect's luggage, authorities confiscated 4.9 kilograms of cocaine, expertly concealed within adhesive materials at the bottom of two suitcases belonging to him.
During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the charges, indicating the cocaine was to be separated from the adhesive materials later on.
This operation has unveiled a complex method of drug smuggling that traffickers use in attempts to evade detection and seizure.
Legal action was taken against the suspect under judicial supervision, and efforts are ongoing to capture other individuals involved in the network.
