Former England international and Real Madrid forward, Michael Owen, made "strange" remarks regarding Paris Saint-Germain's acquisition of Barcelona striker, Argentine Lionel Messi. Owen stated that Paris Saint-Germain seems weaker with the former Barcelona star, Lionel Messi.
In a statement to "BT Sport," Owen said, "The presence of exceptional players at PSG like Messi, Kylian Mbappé, and Neymar makes the team play weaker." He added, "I do not understand why many lean towards nominating PSG to win the Champions League. I believe English teams like Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester City are much better than the French club."
Owen pointed out that players who recently joined PSG, such as Sergio Ramos, Achraf Hakimi, and Gianluigi Donnarumma, are more important to the club compared to Messi. He explained, "Signing players like Donnarumma and Ramos gives PSG a better chance of winning the Champions League, not signing Messi," as reported by the Spanish newspaper "Marca."
Last month, PSG officially announced Messi's transfer to the club with a two-year contract, with the option to extend it for another year, after Barcelona discussed the financial and structural obstacles related to La Liga regulations that prevented "La Pulga" from staying with the team.
Messi has inscribed his name in the history of La Liga, being the player with the most wins in the tournament, achieving 383 victories with Barcelona and playing the most matches in the competition, with a total of 778 games. The key player in Barcelona's history also topped the "Barca" all-time scoring chart in the Champions League with 120 goals, overwhelmingly surpassing retired Brazilian star Rivaldo and his former teammate at the Catalan club, Uruguayan Luis Suárez, who scored 25 goals in the continent's most important tournament.
