Syrian state media reported, citing a military source, that an Israeli airstrike targeted the vicinity of the Syrian capital, Damascus, and the southern region, resulting in the deaths of two civilians and "some material losses." The source added that Syrian air defenses intercepted missiles launched by Israel at 12:15 AM from the Golan Heights and "shot down most of them."
SANA, the Syrian news agency, mentioned that Syrian air defenses confronted several Israeli targets in the skies over Damascus late today, adding that a number of missiles were intercepted.
Israel has been conducting attacks for years on what it describes as targets linked to Iran in Syria, where Iran's influence has grown since it began supporting President Bashar al-Assad in the civil war that started in 2011.
