The Russian Ministry of Defense announced today, Sunday, that it attacked "decision-making centers" and military facilities in the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv last night, in response to the Ukrainian shelling of the Russian city of Belgorod. The governor of Belgorod reported that the death toll from the attack on Belgorod on Saturday has risen to 24 dead and 108 injured, with 37 residential buildings and other sites damaged. The governor of Belgorod urged residents to seek shelter in safe locations today, following a warning of a missile attack on the city.
Russian shelling targeted the capital Kyiv last night with missiles and drones, causing damage to residential areas in Kharkiv in northeastern Ukraine, just hours after Moscow accused Kyiv of carrying out an aerial attack that resulted in casualties across the border in the nearby Belgorod region. The military administration of the area surrounding Kyiv stated that Ukrainian air defense systems in the region participated in repelling a Russian drone attack, with the Ukrainian military destroying 21 out of 49 attack drones launched by Russia. The Belgorod region, adjacent to the northern Ukrainian border, has been subjected to shelling and drone attacks throughout the year, with authorities attributing the responsibility to Ukraine.
