Iraq: Education Ministry Decides to Dismiss Dean of College of Computer Science at University of Basra

The Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education has decided to dismiss Imad Shalaan, the Dean of the College of Computer Science at the University of Basra, from his position. According to a letter from the ministry received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), "Based on the provisions of Article (8/eighth/a) of the amended State Employees and Public Sector Disciplinary Law No. 14 of 1991 and the recommendations made by the investigative committee regarding the actions committed by Dean Imad Shalaan, whose recommendations have been ratified, a decision has been made to impose the penalty of dismissal against Shalaan for committing a serious act contrary to public morals and the conduct expected of a university professor, and the actions attributed to him have been proven and acknowledged, making his continued position detrimental to the public interest."
