Turkey stated on Wednesday that it carried out airstrikes in northern Iraq, killing 12 members of the banned Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK). The Turkish Ministry of Defense reported that it "neutralized" PKK militants in the Gara and Hakurk regions of northern Iraq. The ministry uses the term "neutralized" to usually refer to killings. Turkey, the United States, and the European Union classify the PKK as a terrorist organization. The group has been armed against the Turkish state since 1984.
