British media reports have indicated that Arsenal is interested in signing one of the stars of La Liga next summer. While securing a new striker remains Arsenal's top priority, the club is also looking to acquire a midfielder. According to "The Sun," Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi is Arsenal's primary target in this position. The Gunners have shown interest in the Spanish international for over a year, and Zubimendi has remained committed to Real Sociedad since extending his contract 18 months ago, though he may be inclined to move after the season ends.
The report adds that Arsenal is considering activating Zubimendi's release clause, which is set at £51 million, but the starting point for negotiations may be a financially lower offer. Consequently, Arsenal will have to compete with other European clubs chasing the player, most notably Barcelona. According to the Catalan newspaper "Sport," Barcelona has not forgotten its interest in Zubimendi from last summer and will renew attempts to sign him in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Zubimendi has been with Real Sociedad for over 13 years, having joined the club's academy at the age of 12. He progressed through the ranks before making his debut for the team in April 2019. Since then, the midfielder has appeared in 186 matches for the first team at Sociedad and has played five times for the Spanish national team.
