Khaled bin Ibrahim Al-Sulaiti, the General Manager of the Cultural Village Foundation, Katara, awarded the winners of the Katara Prize for the Art of Nahham "Gulf Nahham." The nahham Ahmed Mishal Al-Bourushi from Bahrain secured first place at the conclusion of the fourth edition of the Katara Prize for the Art of Nahham, winning the title of Gulf Nahham for 2024 along with a prize of 100,000 Qatari riyals. The final qualifying rounds for the Katara Prize for the Art of Nahham concluded yesterday with a distinctive heritage celebration at the Drama Theater in Katara, attended by His Excellency Dr. Khaled bin Ibrahim Al-Sulaiti, the General Manager of the Cultural Village Foundation "Katara," alongside a select group of academics and researchers in maritime heritage, as well as a crowd of heritage arts enthusiasts.
The nahham Ali Al-Sabahi from Saudi Arabia took second place and received a prize of 70,000 Qatari riyals, while nahham Ali bin Hussein Abdul Hamid from Kuwait ranked third, earning a prize worth 30,000 Qatari riyals. Nahham Sultan Omar Al-Kuwari received the encouragement prize from the jury. Over the past days, 13 nahhams from Qatar, the UAE, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and Iraq competed in various performance styles of the authentic nahham art.
The jury members praised the high and advanced artistic levels of the participating nahhams in the fourth edition of the Katara Prize for the Art of Nahham, expressing their happiness with the unique vocal abilities and outstanding singing skills demonstrated by these young talents. Meanwhile, the participating nahhams expressed their delight at the wide reputation and international status the prize has attained, confirming that the prize's attraction for young nahhams from various countries in the region contributes to the preservation of the artistic heritage specific to nahham.
