The US State Department condemned an attack by "militias allied with Iran against US forces in Syria," stating that Iran "disrespects" Iraq's sovereignty. Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said at a press conference, "We find it particularly concerning that this group of militias chose to resume their attacks against American personnel just hours after Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani completed a successful visit to Washington, so it seems clear that Iran does not respect Iraqi sovereignty." He added, "We have seen these attacks in the past, and we have made it clear to Iran and its affiliated groups that we will defend our interests and protect our personnel, and that remains the case."
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that coalition forces thwarted a missile attack near the Rmelian base in Syria, with no American personnel injured. Earlier, two Iraqi security sources reported that at least five rockets were launched from the Iraqi town of Zummar towards a US military base in northeastern Syria on Sunday. This attack against US forces is the first since early February when armed groups in Iraq halted their attacks against American forces. In response, a US aircraft struck a missile platform in Iraqi territory used to target the base in northeastern Syria, according to an Iraqi security source.
