Tragic Incident in Egypt: High School Student Sets Herself on Fire Out of Fear of Results

In a heartbreaking incident, just hours before the announcement of high school results, a student set herself on fire due to fear of her exam results. The details reveal that a third-year secondary student from the Science Division in Kafr El Zayat, Gharbia Governorate, ignited flames on her body before the official results were released, fearing she would not earn enough marks to qualify for the appropriate college. She was immediately transported to the hospital for necessary treatment.

Authorities received a notification from the Burns Center at Kafr El Zayat General Hospital about a girl in her twenties who suffered burns of varying degrees covering 90% of her body, leaving her in critical condition and unable to be interrogated regarding the incident. Investigations indicated that the student was experiencing a psychological crisis due to her anxiety about the 2024 high school results, leading her to set herself on fire, resulting in extensive burns across her body. Medical care is being provided at the Burns Center of Kafr El Zayat General Hospital.

Social media users reacted to the incident, with many expressing the need for parents to stop exerting pressure on their high school children, which can lead to similar and tragic outcomes. Others emphasized the importance of raising awareness about the dangers of mental illnesses and the necessity of seeking psychiatric help in certain situations, free from stigma.
