Lebanese Leaders Discuss Upcoming U.S.-Brokered Negotiations Following Iran-American Agreement

President Joseph Aoun met with Prime Minister Nawaf Salam this morning at Baabda Palace to discuss current local and regional developments. This meeting follows the recent announcement of a memorandum of understanding between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran, assessing reactions to this agreement as well as communications with Lebanon concerning the matter.

The discussion also focused on preparations for the upcoming round of U.S.-brokered Lebanese-Israeli negotiations in Washington next week.

Presidents Aoun and Salam expressed that the U.S.-Iranian agreement represents a positive step towards reducing regional tensions, promoting peaceful resolutions, and ending wartime conditions.

The leaders affirmed Lebanon's steadfast position in the Washington negotiations, emphasizing a permanent ceasefire, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from occupied territories, the deployment of the Lebanese army to international borders, the return of Lebanese prisoners, and the initiation of reconstruction efforts.
