Kataeb Party Rejects Syrian Intervention to Limit Arms to the State

The Lebanese Kataeb Party has issued the following statement: "The Lebanese Kataeb Party has been closely following media reports and statements by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the potential for Syrian intervention in Lebanon aimed at dismantling Hezbollah's military infrastructure.

The Kataeb Party reaffirms its firm position advocating for arms to be solely in the hands of the Lebanese state and for the state to fully extend its authority over all Lebanese territory. The party opposes the proposal of direct Syrian intervention to achieve this goal, asserting that it should be carried out within a clear framework that respects Lebanese sovereignty, strengthens the role of legitimate institutions, and receives support and backing from Lebanon's regional and international partners, serving only the interests of the Lebanese state."

The statement further emphasized, "Lebanon is currently working towards opening a new page in its relations with Syria, based on mutual respect for sovereignty and non-interference in internal affairs, coupled with constructive cooperation on matters of mutual interest. From this perspective, the Lebanese-Syrian relations we aspire to should be founded on a partnership between two independent states, not on military or political intervention by either party."

The Lebanese Kataeb Party also commended "the stance expressed by Syrian President Ahmad Shara’a in rejecting calls for military intervention in Lebanon, reflecting a respect for Lebanese sovereignty and independence, laying the groundwork for sound relations between the two countries."

In conclusion, the statement read: "Building a sovereign, free, and capable Lebanese state requires reinforcing its legitimate institutions and enabling them to fully undertake their national responsibilities, while establishing external relations on the basis of mutual respect and cooperation, away from any form of tutelage or external intervention."
