The New York Times has revealed that U.S. President Donald Trump intends to inform Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of his willingness to bring Turkey back into the F-35 fighter jet program.
Citing four senior officials in the U.S. administration, the report states that Trump is expected to discuss this matter during his anticipated meeting with Erdogan on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Ankara.
The newspaper noted that while officials are divided on how the U.S. administration could bypass legal and Congressional restrictions, they indicated the possibility of exchange of official messages between the two presidents paving the way for Ankara's reintegration into the program.
