The Lebanese Broadcasting Corporation International (LBCI) reports that a U.S. military delegation is set to meet today, Friday, with Lebanon's Army Commander General Rudolf Hekal to discuss the implementation of military procedures in southern trial areas.
Reportedly, during his official visit to Washington, President Jozef Aoun will discuss with U.S. President Donald Trump the future of international forces operating in the south of Lebanon. He intends to request an extension of their mandate or propose an alternative.
There are concerns within Lebanon about any deterioration in U.S.-Iranian relations, as developments between these two nations, whether positive or negative, could directly impact Lebanon's situation.
Aoun acknowledges the possibility of obstacles in executing agreements reached in Washington. However, he has informed stakeholders that the U.S. President and the United States act as guarantors for implementing these agreements.
According to sources, Aoun emphasized Lebanon's decision to separate its path from Iran's is not an attempt to isolate Tehran, but an exercise of Lebanese sovereignty.
Additionally, President Aoun highlighted that should Hezbollah fail to engage in efforts to end the conflict in the south, it will bear responsibility for its decisions, suggesting such a stance would confirm an Iranian affiliation rather than a Lebanese one.
