The General Directorate of Internal Security Forces in Lebanon announced on Monday the arrest of a senior ISIS leader with Syrian nationality, which occurred on June 30th.
The directorate's statement highlighted that the arrest was part of preemptive security operations aimed at tracking down 'terrorist' organization members. It stated, 'The Information Division arrested the suspect, identified as (H.R.), born in 1994 and holding Syrian nationality, on June 30, 2026, after meticulous surveillance and monitoring.'
The statement continued, 'Investigations revealed that the detainee currently holds the position of the overall security emir for what is known as the State of the South and the Central State affiliated with ISIS in Syria,' according to the statement.
The statement noted that the detainee had ascended through various leadership roles within ISIS before assuming responsibility for managing security activities and operations in the 'Southern State' and 'Central State,' coordinating with officials and emirs in other ISIS-controlled regions in Syria.
It mentioned that legal action has been taken against the detainee, as per the specialized judiciary's directive, without providing further details about the location and circumstances of the arrest.
