Iraqi Prime Minister Insists on Weapon Control Despite Threats

The Iraqi Prime Minister has made a firm commitment to proceed with the policy of restricting weapons to state control, stating, "I will continue this confrontation even if it costs me my life," marking his strongest stance since the initiation of this issue.

A few days ago, the Prime Minister directed the preparation of a draft law to restrict weapons solely to state control, emphasizing that "uncontrolled weapons pose the greatest threat to the rule of law and the dignity of institutions."

The Iraqi government has set a definitive deadline of September 30th to conclude the issue of weapon restriction. All armed factions are required to surrender their weapons within this timeframe.

This escalation occurs amidst rising tensions with Iranian-backed armed factions, which oppose any attempts to reduce their military influence outside the framework of state institutions.
