Five Young Men Sentenced for Restoring Damaged Areas from Their Reckless Driving

The Abu Dhabi Misdemeanor Court has issued rulings in three different traffic cases, convicting five young men of recklessly driving on public roads. They were found guilty of exhibiting dangerous behavior in residential areas, endangering their lives and the lives of road users, as well as causing damage to public roads. The sentences included six months of imprisonment for each, which was replaced by three months of community service, and the imposition of fines totaling 50,000 dirhams. Additionally, their driving licenses were suspended for six months, and their vehicles were seized to be sold at public auction, with proceeds allocated for the restoration of the damaged public roads.

The Abu Dhabi Public Prosecution praised the efforts of the Abu Dhabi Police in swiftly apprehending the defendants. It emphasized that exhibiting cars in public streets is one of the most irresponsible behaviors among youth, posing risks to their lives and the lives of others. Educational and community entities were urged to cooperate with relevant authorities and intensify awareness campaigns to curb such irresponsible behaviors on the roads.

The prosecution explained that Article 348 of the Federal Penal Code states: "Anyone who deliberately commits an act that endangers people's lives, health, security, or freedoms shall be punished by imprisonment, a fine, or one of these penalties."

In the details of the three cases, the Abu Dhabi Public Prosecution referred the defendants to the Misdemeanor Court on charges of driving vehicles without registration numbers on public roads recklessly and exhibiting dangerous behavior, disturbing residents, and causing damage to the road surface and public property. The court convicted the defendants as charged and issued sentences including six months of imprisonment, financial fines, seizure of the vehicles used in the crimes, and a six-month suspension of their driving licenses.
