Her Excellency Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemi, Minister of State for International Cooperation, affirmed the United Arab Emirates' commitment and ongoing efforts to support women and girls around the world by providing quality education to ensure the achievement of the "Global Sustainable Development Agenda 2030" goals. This statement was made during her participation in the global initiative for girls' education under the slogan "Let's Support Their Education," which was organized yesterday by the Federal Republic of Germany and the Global Partnership for Education. The initiative aims to enhance partnerships aimed at supporting women and girls in developing countries and creating the right conditions for them to continue their education at school stages.
Her Excellency explained that the UAE works on empowering women in partner countries by providing external aid to them, as educating women and girls is a catalyst for change in communities that reflects long-term economic growth and promotes sustainable development. She emphasized the state's commitment to empowering women in the economic field by supporting legislation that considers women's circumstances and facilitates their full engagement in entrepreneurship and other activities, as this is crucial for achieving societal stability and prosperity.
She added, "Through its external aid, the UAE focuses on supporting e-learning and is keen to provide opportunities for women and girls by prioritizing them in the efforts to establish digital transformation and e-learning strategies in partner countries that need support to reform their national education systems, especially following the COVID-19 pandemic, which significantly impacted the continuation of education in many countries lacking the necessary infrastructure to provide e-learning."
The launch of this initiative is one of the essential preparatory stages for the summit on renewing commitments for the Global Partnership for Education, which will take place in London next July. Leaders from donor countries, partner countries, multilateral organizations, civil society institutions, and relevant private sectors will meet at this summit, which aims to renew commitments dedicated to supporting education systems in 90 eligible partner countries as identified by the Global Partnership for Education, and to intensify efforts to achieve the fourth sustainable development goal, "Quality Education." Additionally, the RewirEd summit will be held at Expo 2020 Dubai, which is a global platform with a clear vision designed to reshape the education landscape for a prosperous, sustainable, innovative, and accessible future for all.
In April 2021, Dubai Cares pledged $2.5 million to support the education of women and girls through the launch of an educational investment issue event in the Middle East. This campaign will conclude with the upcoming London summit to renew commitments for the Global Partnership for Education in July 2021.
