Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan affirmed today, Saturday, that "Turkey stands with Egypt in rejecting the displacement of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, amid the war waged by Israel against the Islamic resistance movement (Hamas)." During his first visit to Egypt as a minister alongside his Egyptian counterpart, Fidan stated, "The world must act to prevent the escalation of the conflict and to resume peace talks focused on achieving a two-state solution."
Fidan emphasized, "We reject attacks on civilians; Israel is carrying out illegal settlement activities and violations at Al-Aqsa, which deepen the crisis. Turkey and Egypt believe in the importance of establishing an independent State of Palestine based on the 1967 borders, with Jerusalem as its capital."
Meanwhile, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock stated that "the war that Israel is waging against the Palestinian Islamic resistance movement (Hamas) must take into account the humanitarian situation in Gaza." She added during a press conference in Cairo, where she was holding talks with her Egyptian and Turkish counterparts, "The fight against Hamas must be conducted with as much consideration as possible for the humanitarian situation. This is a significant dilemma that is difficult to resolve."
In this context, a spokesperson for the German Chancellor indicated that Chancellor Olaf Scholz agreed in a phone call on Saturday with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the need to avoid a broader war in the Middle East and also on preventing Hezbollah’s intervention in the conflict between Israel and Hamas. The spokesperson stated that "Chancellor Scholz reiterated Germany's full solidarity with the people of Israel during these difficult times and emphasized that Germany stands firmly by Israel."
