U.S. President Donald Trump stated, "I will do what I have to do" if Iran does not adhere to its agreement with Washington.
Speaking to reporters, Trump asserted, "If Iran doesn't abide by its agreement, or if it acts improperly, I will do what I have to do." He further remarked, "As long as Iran respects us, we will have no issues."
Trump also noted that "the American negotiation team led by Vance did a great job."
The president emphasized that the U.S. has eliminated a significant portion of Iran's military capabilities, adding, "We've dealt with the first, second, and third tiers of Iranian leadership."
Trump stated that his approach to Iran differs significantly from that of the Democrats.
Regarding the Strait of Hormuz, Trump declared, "The Strait of Hormuz is completely open. The situation is very good in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran is performing exceptionally well concerning the Strait."
The first round of U.S.-Iran talks in Switzerland concluded with U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance announcing Tehran's agreement to the return of International Atomic Energy Agency inspectors. Simultaneously, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi traveled to Oman to discuss the arrangements related to the Strait of Hormuz and follow up on the understandings reached at the Bürgenstock talks.
Iranian media reported that Qalibaf would hold discussions with Sultan Haitham bin Tariq on bilateral relations and developments related to the Strait of Hormuz. The talks will explore ways to strengthen cooperation between the two countries and coordinate on managing navigation in the strait, solidifying the mechanisms agreed upon following the Swiss negotiations.
Technical talks are set to begin Monday as part of a 60-day negotiation process to explore the implementation mechanisms of the Memorandum of Understanding, encompassing the nuclear file, navigation security in the Strait of Hormuz, and other regional issues.
Mediators announced the conclusion of the first round of talks between senior U.S. and Iranian officials in Switzerland on Monday.
A joint statement from the mediating countries, Qatar and Pakistan, revealed that the United States and Iran have agreed on a roadmap to reach a final agreement within 60 days.
The statement, issued by the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, noted that technical discussions would continue throughout the week at the Swiss mountain resort of Bürgenstock.
