Stalled Washington Talks: Israeli Withdrawal Sparks Dispute

Negotiations between Lebanon and Israel in Washington have hit a deadlock, as reported by informed sources, amidst ongoing disagreements over Israel's withdrawal from Southern Lebanon. The sources indicated that the withdrawal issue has been the primary obstacle to reaching an agreement, with Israel insisting on remaining within a buffer zone in the South and tying any withdrawal to guarantees related to Hezbollah's weaponry.

Moreover, the Israeli side demanded "freedom of movement" on the ground until these guarantees are achieved, while the Lebanese delegation insisted on a clear and specific timetable for withdrawal from the occupied Lebanese territories.

Meanwhile, the United States continues its efforts to push the parties towards a settlement, proposing a framework based on a "phased withdrawal" of Israeli forces from Southern Lebanon, alongside security arrangements and the deployment of the Lebanese army in the concerned areas.
