Amid escalating tensions between the U.S. and Iran, following recent exchanges of strikes, U.S. President Donald Trump reaffirmed his stance against Iran acquiring nuclear weapons.
In a post on his platform 'Truth Social' on Sunday, he stated that "Iran will never possess a nuclear weapon," in response to what he called rumors and lies propagated in the book "Regime Change: Inside the Imperial Presidency of Donald Trump."
Hinting at Military Option
Earlier today, Trump hinted at reinstating the military option against Iran, after the U.S. military launched strikes on "10 Iranian sites," targeting what were described as military and radar installations.
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard announced attacks on Bahrain and Kuwait, threatening a "complete halt" to technical discussions and negotiations with the United States.
This followed a statement by the U.S. Central Command "CENTCOM," indicating that "the strikes were in response to an Iranian drone attack on the Panama-flagged tanker Keiko as it passed near the Strait of Hormuz with over two million barrels of crude oil."
Tehran and Washington have exchanged attacks over the past two days, generating fresh tensions between the parties, who are negotiating to end the war the U.S. and Israel launched in late February.
The attacks also highlighted the continued risks to one of the world's most crucial maritime corridors for oil and other essential goods.
The U.S. and Iran are expected to meet in the coming days (June 30) to conduct discussions through technical teams on the nuclear file, lifting sanctions, and managing the Strait of Hormuz, following the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the two countries on June 18.
